Winter Travel 15

This course focuses on experiential learning and best practices for winter travel in mountain environments with an overarching goal of YOUTH ENGAGEMENT in STEWARDSHIP.





To encourage youth to engage in winter travel and recreation in mountain environments as informed and aware individuals through downhill snowsports (skiing and snowboarding), cross country skiing and snowshoeing. 



Canadian Rockies Outdoor Learning Centre has partnered with the Lake Louise Ski Resort to deliver on site learning experiences with professional ski instructors, ski patrol, and avalanche control team. Students will also participate in learning sessions with Parks Canada staff, and will also cross country ski and snowshoe in areas throughout Banff and Yoho National Parks. Students will stay at the Great Divide Lodge, 17 km west of Lake Louise.



Online course work at the student's home school will be delivered using an online course management system. 

Immersion in a 4-day active-learning focused residential program at the CROLC at Lake Louise in Banff National Park which operates under a comprehensive safety system ensuring the highest standards of due diligence and care. Students should be comfortable skiing on a GREEN level run prior to the course.



Avalanche awareness, trip planning, navigation (map and compass / GPS), emergency scenarios, outdoor career exploration and resume building, leadership skills and team building.
