WILD - Wilderness Inspired

For Students Seeking a Deeper Connection with Nature

Build confidence, leadership, and outdoor skills through a semester in the Canadian Rockies.

Available only to Canadian Rockies Public Schools’ (CRPS) high school students, the WILD Program at the Canadian Rockies Outdoor Learning Centre (OLC) is a full-semester, five-month learning experience that blends academic learning with outdoor skill development, leadership growth, and personal discovery. Designed for high school students seeking a deeper connection with nature, community and self, WILD offers an unparalleled opportunity to learn through real experience in one of the most inspiring landscapes in Canada.

Through a combination of classroom instruction and immersive outdoor trips, students develop technical skills in wilderness travel while building the character, confidence, and leadership needed to thrive beyond school. Students completing the program earn high school credits through a structured sequence of courses that include:

  • Water Experience 15 (5 days)
  • Winter Travel 15 (4–5 days)
  • High Ropes Course day
  • Paddle Canada Waterfront Canoeing Certification
  • Wilderness First Aid Skills

Students also participate in 4- and 5-day overnight trips with accommodation in lodges, cabins, tents, or shelters. All meals, transportation, equipment and gear rentals are provided.

A full learning journey.

The WILD Program is delivered as part of a student’s full-time semester schedule. Classroom-based learning is enriched through immersive experiences in field settings. Students complete coursework, assignments, and assessments through CRPS student learning management systems, including digital platforms and experiential evaluation. Teachers ensure that learning remains student-centred, relational and grounded in authentic experience.

More than a semester. A life-changing journey.

The WILD Program offers students the chance to learn in a way that is meaningful, memorable and deeply connected to the land. Students leave with more than credits. They leave with confidence, purpose, and a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves.

Interested students are encouraged to speak with their school counsellor to enrol. This is your time to lead, to grow, and to discover who you are.
